Twine and Lace Easter Egg Tutorial

Happy weekend my friends!! I've been having some fun playing in the studio the past couple of days. I thought I would share with you the twine and lace Easter eggs I've been making.
I prepared a tutorial, but I'm sure you probably don't need it. They are really easy!
Anyway here goes...

I purchased the eggs at Hobby Lobby. There were 6 for 87¢. Yep, 87¢. These eggs are slightly larger than a normal size plastic egg. Place a small amount of glue on the rim and close up the egg. This will help with strength.

For the twine, I use medium weight gardening twine from Ace hardware. It's cheap and easy for me to find, but I know the craft stores are carrying some now to.

Start by the winding the twine in a circle between your fingers, using a little bit of glue to help hold it together. Make sure the center is tightly wound or you will see the colored egg peaking through.

Place some glue on your egg. (I love "The Ultimate" by Crafter's Pick, available at most craft stores)
Then place your twine at the bottom of the egg and begin wrapping your twine.

Gently push up the twine as you go to keep it close to the previous wrap and keep it level on the egg.

When you get passed the half way point, flip the egg over and continue wrapping.

Finish wrapping your egg and cut off the extra. Again, be careful to wrap the end completely or your egg color will show through.  Now just embellish to hearts content!!! Here are the ones I have made so far....

I don't do a lot of decorating for Spring and Easter, but I really like these eggs. I will probably leave them out until Summer!!! I hope you make some of your own! Have fun!!!

Today I am linking up with  Inspire Me Monday at Create with Joy!!!

Oh, these are pretty Karen. And, because they are earthy and not just Easter in appearance, I think they could stay out all year maybe. I always thought the plastic eggs on their own were tacky and it's nice to see they can really be dressed up.

Very pretty and easy, Karen! I guess its the twine wrapping that takes a little time to get right. Love the different embellishments you added. This would be a good project to use up all those little pieces of lace and trim I hold on to.

Karen, I totally love these eggs. I have so many buttons and lace and I am going to make some of these, for sure. Is the glue you used pretty fast to dry as I don't think I've ever used this brand? Thanks for sharing this great idea!

Oh, how enchanting. I have been blowing hen eggs and covering them with paper pulp made from old envelopes. I bet they would look beautiful with a little bit of lace or a crochet flower. I shall give it a try

hi, i think these are so lovely...i am trying to make some, but i am using paper mache eggs and different coloured yarns. the problem i seem to be having is getting the yarn to stick when i get to the other tip of the egg.. any suggestions? otherwise its working well. i am using colours like green, blue, pastel etc like you would dye eggs with. :-) i will post a photo when i get a bunch compleated

Hi Karen, I'm Donna's SIL in TX. I blog over at Posed Perfection and am going to be sharing a tutorial on twine wrapped eggs tomorrow. I just wanted to let you know that your eggs are absolutely gorgeous and I mentioned you at the end of the post as my inspiration for my eggs. Mine are just plain, but I had to share how beautiful yours are and direct my readers to see the works of art you created. I'm following you on GFC and Google+. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
