My Happy Place

For the last few days, I have been in my happy place. Surrounded by the things that I love to play with... Lace, Fabric, Ribbon. The textures, the colors, even the smells put me in a calm joyful space that keeps me playing in the studio until my eyes just can't stay open any longer.

I've been playing with books again. It feels so good to get creative in the studio and make something just for the sheer joy of it.

The table is covered with scraps and lovely pieces of lace and fabric for me to scrounge through until I find the perfect addition to the pages.

We are so lucky to have some wonderful stores here called SAS. They are filled with remnant fabric and yards and yards of lace and trims, all for mere pennies. (Well, it seems like pennies until they add it all up at the register!!!)

I love to go and find new bits to add to my collection. Shopping there puts me in my happy place too.

I bring them home and they go on my wall, beautifying the room with their colors and textures until they find a new home in a piece of art or home decor.

I hope you find some time to go to your happy place too!!!

This is the one time when I'm in what I call "Lace Heaven" and I can stay there for hours - even days on end and never tire of being there either.
It gives me the greatest pleasure, like you, in creating these lace books. You have so much inspiration in front of you in choosing from such a beautiful lace collection!

Enjoy these moments - they are special!
Warm hugs as I sit and wait out the results of my darling friend, Andrea's brain surgery.
I'm so grateful to be able to persue my love of creating like this in this moment too!

How lovely it all looks, Karen! I'd love to find a place like that here in Ohio. On Long Island there was a place I would go for fabric and trims. They would have those small, odd sized pieces of trim bagged and for sale. It was a great way to get an expensive trim for little money and I could usually get a pillow out of the piece.

Hi Karen! Isn't amazing how these small bits and pieces make us so happy? I'm with you on the lace...my collection grows faster than I have time to use it, but every once in a while I take it out of the hatbox that I store it in and just stare at it. Some is really old and I feel like I have to hold onto it until just the right project comes along. Have a great day! Sue

Hi Karen
I like your happy place and would love to poke through all your pretties.
Right now my happy place is in the garden. After such a long winter, I like to be out watching green emerge from the soil and leaves unfurl.

I admire your artful photography ! The images are so clear but romantic . I am in love with the thousands of subtle tones and shades of white antique lace. There are so many stories woven into lace such as your own description of your personal lace happy place..Thanks for sharing your happy place with me Pat

Your happy place is wonderful! I agree, SAS is amazing. My first time in their store I almost fainted at the selections and wonderful prices.
I would be lost without them.

Oh, I can so see why you are in your "happy place." Lovely, lovely!

I'm about to try my hand at chalk painting tomorrow. I've had so much fun gathering the "stuff" to do it with. Now, hopefully it will turn out as I expect it to.

Blessings!

I know exactly what you mean about being able to spread things out to find just the right element.

Hope you get to stay in your happy place.
