No computer for a week!!!! AArrggghhhhhh!!!!

I've had a very stressful weekend. (She said lightheartedly) My computer's hard drive quit on me Friday afternoon. THANKFULLY I had an external hard drive doing backups everyday so all my stuff didn't get lost forever. I am also grateful that the warranty was still good so the $450.00 new hard drive was covered. I cannot stress strongly enough how important it is to have some sort of backup system on your computer. The guy at the Mac store said hard drive failure can just happen randomly, to anyone, no matter what kind of computer you have. So... no computer for posting pictures for a couple more days. Except that it may be longer because over the weekend we emptied out my studio, ripped out all the old disgusting carpet and are putting in laminate wood floors. Everything is stacked in the sitting area of our bedroom which is where my computer desk is. The flooring has to rest for 48 hours in the room so we can't start until tonight. Then we still have to paint and install new molding. So I'm sure it will be the weekend before we are ready to put everything back. So.... no computer AND no studio for a week!!! AArrrggghhhh!!!! I guess I will focus on how grateful I am to be getting a nice new "wood" floor in there. Yeah, I'll do that! Have a wonderful week my friends. I have some really cool things to share with you as soon as I am up and running again!

My external HD runs every single minute and I also subscribe to Carbonite so I don't lose "my life" to the workings of any computer, sugar! Macs are great though, aren't they? If you have OSX 10.5 then Time Machine is worth every penny you spent on your Mac. Mine saved my bacon several weeks ago, chick!

I had a computer problem myself this week! Lost the motherboard, but at the time thought it was much worse. I was scared spitless! An external HD sounds like the thing to do!
Glad everythng turned ok for you. and... Tami E.

Hello Karen,

Yep, I've got an external hard drive as well to backup my daily changes. Of course, I learned this the hard way! It seems we all have at least one horror story of losing all of our precious content.

I love having oak floors in the house..no carpet anywhere..really does help with the allergies. I love area rugs that can changed out for a new look.

Can't wait to see your improvments..I know you will love it.

Have a wonderful day,
Stephanie

Hi Karen....I can feel your pain.....soon the stress will be gone and everything will be "normal" again....whatever that means in our crazy lives......have been meaning to tell you,.....the blue flower in Texas you loved are actually called "Blue Bonnets" and are Texas' state flower.....very ironic you once lived here! Take a deep breath and it will be over with before you know it! jana

You poor girl! I think I'd need medication if my hard drive blew. I'll have to check with the hubby about backing things up!

Sweetie, I feel your pain. My system decided to leave town about 3 years ago and it nearly killed me. Many trips to the local library to keep up with family email is the only thing that saved me. A big thank you for reminding folks to BACK UP OFTEN. These mini external drives are easy to install (plug and play) and hold more data then we can ever imagine and are inexpensive. I have mine back up every night around 2 am. It has saved me more times that I can count. Have a wonderful day. Sea Witch

I know exactly what you are going through. I had the same problem happen to a brand new hard drive 4 months ago. My pc also has a back up system. My son built my whole machine and did such an excellent job. No worries, be patient, time will pass and you will be back on again with all your beautiful ideas!

Hi Karen. How have you been. bummer about your computer. I've been without mine for a couple weeks and have been having to fight with my children over the laptop. Hopefully next week I'll get my new one. Thanks for all your kind words and hope you enjoy your weekend.

Ohhhh I would love a wood floor in my studio. It has carpet now too, It will be worth the time out of your room Karen :)
As for the computer, I do have an external hard drive but I don't back it up every day, maybe once a week. If I was more organised I could do it everyday I suppose.

My son keeps telling me I need to do something like that...but procratination is my middle name, so it will probably take a crisis to get me to do it! My granddaughter accidentally unplugged my computer last night, but I didn't know it, and kept trying all night to get it to work...finally figured it out this morning...amazing how frantic we get without our computers...what in the world did we do before???

Glad you got a new floor...that's some compensation!

Blessings,
Mary

I have an ebook that I back up everything on! I would be freaking out if I lost my "stuff". Maybe I'll buy a backup for my backup? I am getting a new computer this week, and I am not looking forward to moving over all my software, settings, email, eesh... it's going to be a pain, but I am excited about moving to a much more powerful machine built for the graphic and photo work I do. My 5 year old laptop is getting pretty tired!
