7 hours!!! Good Grief.

Last weekend my sweetie and I were out Garage Sale-ing and found this old ottoman for $5.00. I have been wanting to add one under my desk in my studio for quite a while now and it was the perfect size. So I took it home, and today decided my project would be to try to make a slipcover. It's taken me 7 hours give or take. (I'm shaking my head in shame) One stupid mistake after another caused me to fix things a couple of times but I'm finally finished and very happy with the results....

It's not perfect, but it's close enough for me! I found these fabrics at a discount fabric store near me and fell in love. That's cotton duck on the bottom. I tried something new this time and bought plain cotton cording to make the piping myself so it would match the top. Much more time consuming but I think it gives it a little more professional look.

No more sewing slipcovers for me for a while. This was A LOT of work!!!! But I'm glad I did it.

Nice job! Don't you just hate it when it takes so much longer to complete a project than you imagined it would? Lovely.

I wish you 7 hours of compliments! It is beautiful! I have an old hassock I want to cover, just bc it has always been around and useful. I am not a sewer, but in my mind I am! I have it planned, but...yours is amazing!

Your ottoman is gorgeous. You did a good job. I bet it was kind of fun sewing it. Now you should take a pic of where you are going to place it.
About you sweet little boy Rocky is he a springer spanial? As I scrolled down.. there he was. As you remember maybe.. we just put our Hank down last march. So I melt when I see a springer spanial. hugs to Rocky! Sally

Karen, you did a beautiful job...the slipcover is gorgeous! I adore the rose pattern in the top, and you did a superb job on the welting...it does take time, but adds the decorator finish to it that is well worth the effort. I've also made slipcovers, and once the project is completed, I don't want to think about another one for a long, long time!

You should be very pleased with yourself for a job well done!

God bless,
Mary

Wow! This is just beautiful! I love the color! Oh, and so you don't feel bad, it once took me several hours to make 2 pillowcases. My sewing machine is like a defiant teenager that cannot or will not behave. It's been in the time out closet for awhile now. LOL. Hugs!

You did a great job! Cording takes a lot of time but yes, it certainly does add to the looks to make it match. Do you know the trick of making the bias strips for the cording out of a square of fabric? If not, you should google it as it is a big help. My books are packed in boxes at the moment and I know not where to find them or I would tell you.
Love the top fabric and I always love canvas. What discount store did you use? I might want to visit it!
Enjoy your new creation. It is lovely.

Well - at least it turned out beautifully! 7 hours . . . you sound like me!!! But it probably would've taken me 17 hours - a seamstress I do not profess to be. LOL.
Great job!

Hi Karen Valentine,
you did such a tremendous job with your ottoman!! My Granny used to say that the amount of time it takes you to make things is not visible, it is the result which is important! I don't count the hours I use to finish off my creations, a makeover or everything I do anymore... it takes me soo much time to do even small or simple things (and now that my hands give me trouble even more than usual!), but what's important to me is the result! I am in awe of that beautiful ottoman you've made with patience and love, and the color combo is fabulous too! I know how difficult could be cover cording and insert the piping (I too made it myself for some pillows), but I totally agree with you, it makes things look so professional!
Hugs,
Monicax.

IT IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO beautiful! Oh Karen you did an amazing job! I want to learn to do that so badly. But, I think we had that discussion. Hee Hee. The cording does give it such a finished look. GREAT JOB!

And Karen, a huge thank you for the info you gave me about the digital scrapbooking photo borders! I am going to check them out on the internet. I just had no idea where to even start until the info from you! You are so sweet to help!! I wanted to print out a vacation photo for a friend with a border like that! She will love it! I will let you know how it comes out! Thanks again, Patti

Even if it doesn't look perfect to you, it looks perfectly beautiful to the rest of us. I could never attempt anything like that since I can't even sew a button on anything and get it to stay. :) Blessings, Tammy

Hello My Friend,
I'm a stranger to blogging for too long. Loving your new ottoman, it's very nice, give yourself a big hug! I did a makeover in my studio it's black and white now and I covered my bedroom chairs for my space. Made some pillows, lots of yard work now it's cool. Your yard is a dream, I don't have a green thumb.I'm getting ready for the holidays. I hope all is well with you.

I disagree! I this is IS absolutely perfect. The different fabric on the skirt is really a great touch and the cording, while a pain, I know, really does take it up several notches.

Most Excellent!
