New Studio Stuff

My time spent perusing all the wonderful blogs for the Where Bloggers Create party this year caused me to really think about my studio and whether or not I was really happy with it. Actually I knew the answer already but the thought of all the work that was going to be needed to get it the way I truly wanted it was both exciting and daunting at the same time. I will show you what I have done in the next few posts. First I thought I would share with you a hanging organizer I made.

I used the top of a burlap curtain panel I had once made but you could just use cut of burlap or any fabric for that matter. I layered it with a backing fabric and bound it all around with a wide piece of lace that I folded over to both sides. I used ribbon and lace sewn into the top for tying it to the door hooks. (I didn't have any so I went to target and bought a $7.99 plastic door hanger and used the hooks that came with that.)
Then I cut out the pockets. Make sure you shape them something like this so there is room for you to put things in them once they are sewn down.

I added more lace trim to the tops of the pockets before I sewed the to the panel. Just line the edges of each pocket straight up and down to make the gap in the pocket. When your finished you can fill it with your favorite goodies!!

On a completely different subject...

Perhaps many of you have tried the new Blogger Interface. If you haven't you should try it out. Not because I think it's wonderful, because frankly I really don't like it. I think you should try it out because once you do and you will have the option to return to the old interface (the one many of us are still using.) Blogger is going to ask you to leave feedback for them.  This is very important. If you don't try it out and leave feedback, Blogger will never know how you feel about it and may decide to change things over permanently. We have been given a rare opportunity to tell Blogger what like and don't like about a change before it is made permanent.
So let your voice be heard!!!   :)
( I put a poll on my top right sidebar if you would like to share your opinion with me. :)

Oooh what a great point. It is rare for huge companies to ask opinions on things from the people it really matters to. I have heard from quite a few people how bad the new one is.
Thanks for the info

What a wonderful idea for organizing in the studio! I am constantly trying to tame the chaos in my workspace, and I love solutions like this that are practical and pretty!
Regarding the new blogger interface: I hated it at first too! But I've forced myself to use it and it's becoming less awkward. I also disliked the new template designer at first, but now I love it! I don't know if I will come to like to the new interface though, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens!
I always enjoy your blog posts! Thanks for sharing!

Our thoughts are totally in line on the new Blogger interface issue!! I've left some feedback and I'm hoping that enough people make a little bit of a fuss about it so as to mean we get to keep the currently layout! That being said I do like the lighter colours but that is about all!!

Your hanging organiser is lovely - elegant but also homely, I'm about to embark on turning part of our spare bedroom into my little crafting corner-cum-reading nook. I know what it's like to look at a space and think to yourself; actually this isn't my ideal at all!

LOVE your beautiful over-the-door organizer! I am going to try making one! Yes, I got SOOO many great ideas from visiting all the blogs, too--and saw many of the limitations I have in my own current set-up. I think organizing a studio space is just an on-going perpetual-motion fact of life.

Going to check out the new Blogger interface now...thx for the reminder.

These things take time but oh the reward of a job well done, as this surely is, is so satisfying.

May I add a note to the blogger thing? After trying the new interface, I was asked to give a review but was busy and thought I would do it later.
Now there is no invite to try and no review to select. The second it pops back up, I will surely add my 2 cents. I liked only a few parts but not all and should have taken the moments to say so.
Hope everyone heeds your advice : D

Hi Karen, your organizer is soooo organized! Love it. So beautiful as all your creations are. I did try out the new format Blogger offered, and already left them feedback about how I did not prefer it. Tried to come up with a reason, but just didn't like it! Hugs to you. Riki

I love your sweet little pockets.

I too do not like the new interface. Twice now I have tried to take the survey and it has said "oops something bad has happened, etc." That right there should tell blogger that this is a no go.

Hi Karen,
Love the over the door organizer. The beige ticking is so sweet.
About the blogger interface, what specifically did you not like? It would be helpful when I go in to try it to know your opinions. What sort of changes did they make? I was a little scared to give it a try because of all the trouble we have been having with Blogger lately.
Thanks for the help.

Hey I tried the new template and HATED it but did not know how to leave feedback with them. It would not work so I'm glad you have your own poll. I bet they've got a new something added on so I can't leave a message!! Looks great! xoxo-cindy

Hi Karen
Your pocket hanger could fill so many needs in a craft studio, love the lace trim. After viewing the other workspaces, the one thing I'd really like is walls! My area is in unfinished basement but hubby thinks it's just fine since I'm the only one in there. :-(
The new blogger format is different and I haven't decided yet if I like it or not.

Hi sweet Karen!!! I LOVE your organizer!!!! It is just gorgeous ~ I've always loved things with pockets...more room to stuff treasures inside :) I've been using the newest version of blogger and am fine with it ~ I'm so used to changes that I just adapt but I'm not intimidated by their stuff either. What's this??! How could you not like your studio?!?! What could make it more purrfect?! Short of getting yourself a "Romeo" such as moi, I can't imagine. Oh wait, maybe you are thinking of putting in a bed for me when I visit - it is a long journey you know..... other than that, neither "her" nor I can think of anything that could make it better. And then you went and proved us wrong! Yes, I admit it, the organizer is grand!!! (although I still think a cat nap bed for me would have topped that).

I told "her" about the blogger thing and will have "her" get on it right away. Me? Well I guess I'm going to have to find a place to nap......

Purrs!

Hi Karen,

Your hanging organizer is lovely - great job! I've already left feedback for Blogger on the new interface. I've actually begun to feel quite comfortable with it.

Just wanted to make sure you received my email about wanting a subscription to Where Women Create. I never heard back from you, so I'm hoping you received it and passed on my mailing address.

Karen, I love the burlap and lace organizer. It would be perfect in my studio! Time to get out the sewing machine! My problem with sewing is that I have no imagination and can't think these things up myself, so thanks for the inspiration! I'm going to check out blogger now.
